Course Description
The Project-Based Ensemble is a 1 hour course designed for teachers to learn the defining characteristics of project-based band pedagogy, learn the essentials for designing projects through understanding by design, and see how backwards design can be used to develop 3 specific project-based units. Separate videos are available for band, choir, and orchestra teachers.
Course Objectives
During the course, you will:
- A. Learn the overarching defining characteristics of project-based pedagogy.
- B. Learn how to employ the principles of Understanding by Design (UbD) to design projects.
- C. See three examples of how to develop a project using backwards design for the band classroom.
Student Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- A. Define and understand the core tenets of project-based pedagogy.
- B. Evaluate your own practices to find room to introduce new teaching strategies.
- C. Develop project-based band units for your own classroom.
