Course Description
During this session, participants will engage in movement by following along with a rhythm stick drill, embark on a literary journey with the children’s book Music is Bananas, and explore the connection between science, technology, and engineering with music.
Course Objectives
Can bananas make music? Yes. How is this accomplished? Through a collaborative lesson integrating music and technology. Moving the music classroom into the 21st century, where technology is at the forefront of every decision, this lesson will provide teachers and students with engaging inspiration for music technology. Turning yellow produce, like bananas, into musical instruments is accomplished by connecting a Makey Makey circuit board to your computer; plug and play. In addition to literacy and movement is the perfect way to engage an entire class. Get ready to go, Bananas!
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, participants will establish the benefits of integrating technology and engineering in a music lesson to better aid students with learning in the 21st century. Encourage creative thinking and using items beyond the classroom to connect more with music, and finally, enjoy the handout with freebies and how to implement this idea in your next lesson.
