Course Description
Teaching music in any capacity can present several challenges, but building relationships with your students should never be one of them. Empathy and sympathy are not the same and while growing relationships with your students, it’s important to deprogram your implicit or overt biases. In this workshop, Eric and Justin provide solution-based strategies to establish, foster and nurture relationships with your students.
Course Objectives
During the workshop, you will:
1. Learn how to grow relationships with your students by deprogramming your implicit or overt biases.
2. Learn how relationship building with your students should not rely on both empathy and sympathy-based approaches.
3. Learn solution-based strategies to build relationships with your students.
Student Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
1. Identify and deprogram any biases you have as a teacher by practicing making deposits with your students.
2. Learn how to build real and authentic relationships with your students by brainstorming new ideas.
3. Apply solution-based strategies in your classroom by establishing, fostering and nurturing relationships with your students.
