Course Description
Intentional programming centered around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Representation practices is a necessary foundation for inclusive music programs. The process can be overwhelming when directors lack accessible tools. This session will discuss the importance of ethical programming, suggested best practices, present strategies to authentically involve our students in the programming process, and provide the session attendees with sample programs and rubrics to make this process more efficient, sustainable, and applicable to K-12 music classrooms.
Course Objectives
Objective: To emphasize the importance of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Representation (DEIR) in creating inclusive music programs.
Objective: To provide attendees with accessible tools and strategies for implementing intentional and ethical programming in music education through a culturally responsive lens
Objective: To present best practices and practical approaches for involving students authentically in the programming and rehearsal process
Objective: To offer rubrics and sample programs that make the DEIR process more efficient, sustainable, and applicable to K-12 music
Learning Outcomes
Objective: By the end of this session, participants will be able to articulate the significance of ethical programming centered around DEIR in music education.
Objective: Participants will develop strategies to involve students authentically in the programming process, including soliciting student input and feedback.
Objective: Participants will be able to utilize provided sample programs and rubrics to create or enhance their own DEIR-centered music programs
