Course Description
Every student in our classroom has needs. Many children learn best in a variety of ways – with multiple paths for engagement towards understanding. Through the lens of access, equity, and inclusion, this workshop focuses on the struggles that general music teachers face as they strive to ensure a quality music education for all of their students. Teachers will learn about practical ways to engage learners of all abilities. After learning and experiencing what adaptive music can look like, teachers will be engaged in “leveling-up” a lesson of their choice to make it more adaptive and accessible for students in their classroom.
Course Objectives
- Engage in a variety of activities that engage learners of all abilities.
- Learn how to perform an inventory of your own students needs when it comes to adaptive music.
- Take a look at lessons and how they were made to be more adaptive and accessible for students.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Plan a variety of activities that engage learners of all abilities.
- Complete an inventory of your own students needs in relation to adaptive music.
- Revise a lesson of your choosing to make it more adaptive and accessible for students.
