Alice Tsui

ALICE TSUI 徐晓兰 (pronounced TSOY | she/her) is an Asian American/Chinese American pianist, Grammy Finalist music educator, scholar, activist, dog mom, and lifelong Brooklyn, New Yorker! Alice is the Founding Music Teacher and Arts Coordinator at PS 532 New Bridges Elementary, an arts-integrated public elementary school in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. She graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and a Master of Arts in Music Education, and is currently a doctoral candidate (ABD) in music education at Boston University. Alice is a Moderator for Decolonizing the Music Room, a Board Member for the Association for Popular Music Education, and a Visionary Board Member of F-flat Books. Alice serves on NAfME’s Council for Orchestral Education and Connected Arts Networks. Alice has published, lectured, and presented internationally on teaching and engaging students and teachers from the philosophical to the practical in culturally responsive and sustaining musics. Alice’s first children’s book, “We Are Golden 我们是金的” is a bilingual Mandarin Chinese and English, interactive musical ebook that speaks to antiracism and self-reflection through music.

As a product of the NYC public school system, Alice is passionate about decolonizing, ABAR (anti-bias, anti-racist), abolitionist public music education and empowering the individual and collective voices of youth through music as expression. Alice uplifts the solidarities between the Black and AAPI communities in her work. Alice has been featured on multiple news networks for her activism, including NBC, USAToday, and NowThis News.
